The RE curriculum will actively support the growth of the Bishopswood Learner by ensuring children learn about a variety of concepts, beliefs and practices within religions and think about their own and others spiritual, moral, social, cultural and life experiences. RE in Bishopswood Schools Federation will support students in developing their own patterns of values and principles within a caring, respecting and thriving environment.
The Bishopswood RE Learner will endeavour to pose questions and follow The Hampshire Living Difference (iii) lines of enquiry in order to develop their understanding of the world and the people in it. They will gain an ability to explore the beliefs of others in a respectful and tolerant manner.
Religious education develops pupils’ knowledge and understanding of, and their ability to respond to, Christianity and the other principal religions represented in Great Britain. By exploring issues within and across faiths, pupils learn to understand and respect different religions, beliefs, values and traditions (including ethical life stances), and their influence on individuals, societies, communities and cultures. RE encourages pupils to consider questions of meaning and purpose in life. Pupils learn about religious and ethical teaching, enabling them to make reasoned and informed judgements on religious, moral and social issues. Pupils develop their sense of identity and belonging, preparing them for life as citizens in a mulit cultural, multifaith society. Through the use of distinctive language, listening and empathy, RE develops pupils’ skills of enquiry and response. RE encourages pupils to reflect on, analyse and evaluate their beliefs, values and practices and communicate their responses.
Learning from religion allows pupils to make informed, reflective and personal responses based on their own experiences and values. It enables pupils to engage with and interpret the views of others. RE does not seek to urge religious beliefs on pupils nor compromise the integrity of their own beliefs by promoting one religion over another.
The Bishopswood RE Curriculum, in accordance with the Hampshire Living Difference Syllabus aims to:
Stimulate pupils interest and enjoyment in Religious Education
Promote the spiritual, moral, cultural and mental development of all pupils.
Prepare the pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.
Help the pupils to understand the teachings and practices of Christianity and other major world religions.
Encourage all pupils to develop their own beliefs and values.
Raise their self-esteem and give them the confidence and ability to reflect on and to express their own feelings, reactions and responses to the world around them.
Help the pupils to understand the effect of religion on the individual and on society.
